Taking a short break from posting. Life is completely out of hand and flip-turned-upside-down. So there is no need to subject you kind folks to potential irrational statements and ravings that I'm prone to currently. I'll be back in full force soon, so... don't delete Get Punched from your blog reader or you will miss out witnessing my rise from the ashes like a mighty pheonix. If you like you can still follow the twitter me.

Life is absurd. FYI.

The Melvins - The Bride Screamed Murder

I had the pleasure of witnessing the crushing power that is the Melvins on their second-to-last stop of their recent tour in support of the lastest release The Bride Screamed Murder. The Melvins are one of the heaviest bands on the planet. They have everything I love about metal and none of the fake-anger-posturing I can't stand is so many other heavy bands. Their discography alone shows they are artists with a vision in the truest sense. This is the Melvins 20th album and the third studio project featuring lastest member additions in drummer Coady Willis and bassist Jared Warren of Big Business. Along side drummer Dale Crover and lead guitarist King Buzzo... welll... TWO DRUMMERS! It's the best thing ever. They kill it top to bottom.

I had a longer post planned and was going to get all dissecty and shit but screw it. You people know how to find records and can make up your own mind. If you aren't into being even a little bit challenged in your music listening then plug yourself back into the matrix and go back to listening to your Creed and whiny, post-psychology Metallica.

FYI the album artwork sucks. They totally phoned it in.

Hi-Fi: Reid Miles Covers Animated

If you don't know, Reid Miles was responsible for some of the greatest album cover design work of the 20th century for Blue Note records. I'm sure it's the same for many other designers but he's a major reason why I got into this racket. Check this excellent post at Hardformat for a better overview. This short highlights some of these as an advert for an upcoming concert series. Clickity for more deets.

There is a long list of rock and roll tracks I constantly go back to. The Rocker by Thin Lizzy is always at the top. For this one, it has everything to do with the main guitar riff and the drum breakdown on the verse. Plus, Phil Lynot has one of the great rock voices in my opinion... not to mention the 'fro and big ass rings on his fret hand...

"The Rocker" was released as a 7" single in 1973 and again on the 1977 singles compilation "Rocker" (1971-1974)

This video has been all over the last few days and for good reason. Iceland has been on my personal travel wish-list for years. I keep watching this advert. It just makes me feel good. I call that a branding success if there ever was one cause I'm jaded as hell when it comes to commercial attempts at making me feel something. Check out Inspired by Iceland. I may put a volcano report on my blog just cause it seems so bad ass.

FYI if your a sucker for footage of Iceland then you really should check out the Sigur Ros film "Heima". It's loaded with goodness.

From Sanjuro (1962), Akira Kurosawa's sequel to my favorite film of all time, Yojimbo. The tension in this duel is only topped by how fast it's over. Toshiro Mifune plays the title character, Sanjuro, and he is totally epic in everything I've seen him in. Probably my all time favorite screen actor. Just enjoy the awesomeness of this fight.
